Aswat Almadina to be Goodwill Ambassadors for UNDP in Sudan

The popular young Sudanese band Aswat Almadina are set to be appointed National Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan.

The popular young Sudanese band Aswat Almadina are set to be appointed National Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan.

According to a statement issued by the UNDP today, “the music band’s strong commitment to global development issues, including poverty eradication, environmental protection and peace building will make them compelling and eloquent advocates of these issues.

“Their partnership with UNDP to support Sudan in raising awareness and promoting sustainable development goals (SDGs) will help send a powerful message that will reach the hearts and minds of people throughout Sudan.

The statement says that Aswat Almadina – who will be officially appointed at a ceremony at the UNDP offices in Khartoum on February 14 – will promote the SDGs and the objectives of UNDP in media and appearances at public events; initiate, undertake and support activities and special events to raise public awareness about and galvanize support for UNDP’s efforts around the SDGs; and visit UNDP projects in Sudan to be able to provide first-hand accounts to diverse audiences of achievements in supporting the people of Sudan in areas such as livelihoods, peace building and environmental protection.

The initial appointment is for a period of one year, and is extendable.

The statement explains that Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals from the worlds of arts, sciences, literature, entertainment, sport or other fields of public life who have expressed their desire to contribute to the promotion and realization of the ideals enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
