Amnesty for 200 Sudanese military prisoners

The Sudanese Minister of Defence on Saturday announced amnesty for 200 army staff prisoners on the occasion of the Eid El Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Defence Minister Abdel Rahim Hussein did not identify the nature of the dropped charges against those military personnel granted amnesty. A number of regular army forces are held in custody in Darfur, facing charges of murder and armed robbery. On the other hand, there are claims that military commanders were imprisoned after refusing to obey orders to attack rebel sites in South Kordofan, the Blue Nile, and Darfur.
