Ambassador Smith invites Darfuris for upcoming conference

Ambassador Dane Smith, US special envoy in charge of Darfur, stated that all Darfuri communities must take part in the upcoming displaced persons/refugee conference in Nyala, South Darfur. The ambassador was interviewed by the Sudanese TV channel El Shorouq, as published on Monday, 8 October on its website. During the interview, Smith pointed out that recommendations and opinions of the displaced/refugees and armed movements that oppose the Doha document would push it forward. He added this conference will also give refugees and displaced the chance to voice out their opinions about basic services they are provided and to discuss about when they intend returning to their home-villages. Smith stressed the importance of their opinion and suggestions during the conference, stating this is a good opportunity to get feedback from them. The ambassador revealed he told Tijani Sese that the international community aims at achieving two things with the Nyala conference: firstly, that all refugees and the displaced will be represented in this conference, regardless of their background; secondly, that efforts will be made to guarantee the participation of everyone in the conference in November.
