Agreement between JEM splinter faction and Sudan government initialed

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, Aichatou Mindaoudou, and the Sudanese Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed bin Abdallah Al-Mahmoud, said the agreement between the government of Sudan and a splinter faction of the Justice and Equality Movement, has been initialed by delegations of both parties.The agreement is based on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur and followed the Declaration on Cessation of Hositilities and Commitment to the Peace Process, which was signed in October 2012.  It was added that the Sudanese government was represented by Dr. Amin Hassan Omar, Minister of State and Head of Darfur Peace Follow-Up office, and the delegation of the JEM splinter faction by Mohamed Bashar Ahmed, the group’s president.
