Abducted Chinese worker released in West Darfur

The authorities of West Darfur announced the release of a Chinese man who was abducted three days ago by unidentified gunmen for ransom. The man is employed with one of the companies working on the construction of the Inqadh road linking El Obeid in North Kordofan to Nyala and El Fasher in Darfur. His release and hand-over to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China was expected to take place on Tuesday. The chairman of the Legislative Council of West Darfur state, Prince Jaafar Ismail, warned of the continuing abductions of foreigners in Darfur, saying that “government efforts alone are not enough to put an end to such unruly acts.” International employees, aid workers and Unamid personnel have been repeated targets for attacks and kidnappings in Darfur since the start of the war in 2003.
