Abbala and Misseriya clash in South Darfur

Clashes erupted yesterday between armed groups belonging to the Abbala and Misseriya tribes in the areas Torkolmi and Mashbak near Kass. A member of the Misseriya in the region said the clash erupted when a group of armed Abbala using four Land Cruisers entered the region with the intention of seizing a herd of cows belonging to the Misseriya.

Clashes erupted yesterday between armed groups belonging to the Abbala and Misseriya tribes in the areas Torkolmi and Mashbak near Kass. A member of the Misseriya in the region said the clash erupted when a group of armed Abbala using four Land Cruisers entered the region with the intention of seizing a herd of cows belonging to the Misseriya.He said the clashes resulted in the death of two Misseriya and injured four more. A number of cows were killed and houses burned. The clash also resulted in the death of six of the Abbala and the destruction of a Land Cruiser belonging to them, according to a resident of the area.

Groups of the Abbala, or Rizeigat, have fought the Misseriya repeatedly this year despite reconciliation efforts backed by the state government. Kass Locality has seen some of the worst fighting.
