25 die, 35 wounded as Ma’aliya-Hamar clash in East Darfur

At least 60 people were killed and injured on Monday in renewed clashes between Ma’aliya and Hamar tribesmen in East Darfur over a conflict about farmlands. “The fighting between the Ma’aliya and Hamar that started on Monday afternoon in the area of Um Shaalouba, stopped on Tuesday”, a listener from the area told Radio Dabanga. “However, the situation is tense, as there are still large gatherings of warriors from both tribes. Fighting could erupt again at any moment.” “21 Hamar tribesmen died, and six were wounded”, the source said, “while of the Ma’aliya four were killed, and 29 others were wounded.” He appealed to the East Darfur authorities to immediately intervene, contain the situation, and resolve the problem.
