23 physicians threaten to resign in Nyala over unpaid wages

Twenty-three physician specialists working at Nyala Teaching Hospital threatened to leave the state of South Darfur immediately unless paid their financial dues. They estimated that they are owed more than 1.5 million pounds for housing allowance.  A source who preferred not to be named told Radio Dabanga that the specialists gave the state government four days for the payment of nine months of arrears concerning the housing allowance. They also demanded improving the working environment and transportation.

They also demanded improving the working environment and transportation.The source said the decision to leave came after the failure of a meeting yesterday with the State Minister of Finance Amr Abakr with the representative of the physician specialists, Dr. Mubarak Mohamed Ahmed, as well as the state legislature’s Commission on Health and Education. The source said the delegation proposed to the Minister of Finance that the ministry first pay 4 months of arrears, and then pay the rest on a scheduled bases. However, the finance minister rejected that proposal.
