’21 Sudan troops killed’: Darfur rebels, East Jebel Marra

Rebel forces in Rokoro, Central Darfur, announced the killing of several government troops and pro-government militiamen during their attack on Thursday evening. On Friday, the Sudanese Air Force bombed the area in East Jebel Marra. The military spokesman for the Sudan Liberation Movement, under command of Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW), reported that 21 government troops were killed, and a number was wounded, during the attack east of Rokoro, a rebel-held area. “We lost one of our forces, while three others were injured,” Mustafa Tambur said. He claimed that the army’s attack on their positions in Rokoro was an attempt to take back the road between Central and North Darfur. “This road has been closed since 2003… Their attempt failed,” Tambur told Radio Dabanga. Also, two women were killed, and three water wells destroyed, in an air raid by the Sudanese Air Force, he reported. East Jebel Marra air raid A witness told Radio Dabanga that the Sudanese Air Force launched an intensive air raid on Burgo and Karko in the East Jebel Marra region on Friday. The bombing started at 8 am and continued until 12 am. He reported that the air force dropped 12 bombs in total, leading to the death of more than 27 animals. Several farmlands caught fire. On Wednesday, the SLM-AW claimed to have killed several government troops, and the seizure of weapons, in the military El Zubeir area in Central Darfur.
