19 Gimr killed and 17 wounded in intra-tribal feuding in S. Darfur

Nineteen (19) people were killed and 26 wounded in clashes among Gimr tribesmen in South Darfur. The fighting occurred in areas of Kateela distict in South Darfur. The renewed clashes among the tribesmen resulted from disputes over agriculture and cattle theft. The confrontations were accompanied by theft of property and livestock as well as the burning of villages. Many citizens fled to Antekina and Kateela town. Elders said that the conflict continues between the two parties and they formed a committee of tribal elders to calm the situation. They called on local authorities to intervene quickly and to deploy regular troops to maintain security in the region. The resurgence of the feuding within the tribe follows a fight in late June, when six Gimr tribesmen were killed in clashes between sections of the tribe.
