The number of dismissed policemen in East Darfur has increased to 45. The salaries of 18 others have been suspended.

The policemen refuse to join their colleagues in South Kordofan, on the ground that they have repeatedly performed their duty in the war-torn southern region, while others have not been sent to the battle fields at all.

A week ago, 30 East Darfur policemen, who opposed their transfer to South Kordofan, were dismissed by the Sudanese Ministry of Interior Affairs. Last Saturday, another 15 policemen were removed from their positions, a source reported to Radio Dabanga from the East Darfur capital of Ed Daein.

“The salaries of 18 others will only be paid after they consent to participate in the fighting in South Kordofan,” he said.

He confirmed that all dismissed are from Abu Karinka, Adila and Sharif localities, suggesting that “a specific group of policemen” is targeted.
