15 die in new Misseriya clan clash in West Kordofan

Fifteen people were killed and more than 30 people sustained injuries in renewed clashes between two Misseriya clans near Debab, West Kordofan, on Sunday, a Misseriya leader reported. Three days before, a reconciliation conference between the Awlad Imran and El Ziyoud clans was concluded in En Nahud. Mohamed Wad Abuk told Radio Dabanga today that the dead and the wounded from the clash in Kuak, near Nama agricultural project, were transferred to a hospital in Muglad. The reconciliation conference between the Misseriya Humur clans last week was supposed to be the final one, after the parties signed a cessation of hostilities agreement in El Fula town, by recommitting themselves to respect a previous truce in late October. Abuk now holds the speakers, the local government and other members of the conference responsible for the renewed tribal fighting. “During the conference, they did not discuss the basic issues between the clans,” the Misseriya leader complained. A lack of discussions about the tribal populations on the ground and the causes for fighting between them in the past did not lead to a comprehensive solution, Abuk believes. He claimed that “the government does not care about the tribes murdering each other”. He appealed to the warring parties to stop their fighting, listen to the voice of reason, and start reconciling.
