Minister Ammar Merghani Hussein, told a press conference in Khartoum on Wednesday said that the figure of 137 Sudanese men and women is drawn “according to a documented government monitoring.

“Some of them have joined the Islamic State (IS), and Boko Haram,” he said.

The Minister also pointed out that “extremist Salafist groups are spreading in Sudan and working through religious associations in the mosques in recruiting Sudanese to join these groups.

Dozens of Sudanese who joined IS have been killed in combat zones of the terrorist organisation in Syria and Libya,” the Minister concluded.
