12 shot in West Darfur robbery

An attack on displaced farmers south of Murnei in West Darfur on Sunday evening left 12 people, including two children, with bullet wounds.
A farmer reported to Radio Dabanga that at about 9 pm, militiamen riding camels attacked a group of displaced farmers tending their farms some 15 kilometres south of Murnei. He explained that the displaced had returned from the relative safety of the Murnei camp to the area to cultivate their farms.

A farmer reported to Radio Dabanga that at about 9 pm, militiamen riding camels attacked a group of displaced farmers tending their farms some 15 kilometres south of Murnei. He explained that the displaced had returned from the relative safety of the Murnei camp to the area to cultivate their farms.

“The Janjaweed began robbing the farmers. When they resisted, they opened fire on them, injuring 12 of them, including two children,” he said.

“They then robbed the people of all their belongings, including their blankets and even their batteries.”

He added that the seriously wounded, who include a girl, were transferred to a hospital in Murnei.
