UN worker shot dead on main road Kordofan

The UN World Food Program announced that one of their Sudanese employees was killed in a road ambush today in the state of South Kordofan, at approximately 80 kilometres from Kadugli. Another employee was injured during the same attack. WFP spokeswoman Amor Almagro said that “our driver Jamal el-Fadil Farag Allah, married and father of five children, was killed today during an armed attack in an area about 80 kilometres north of Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan. During the same attack another employee, Saad Yousef, was injured when the vehicle was attacked.” Almagro added that Saad Yousef was airlifted to Khartoum for treatment and that Jamal was the first WFP employee killed in Sudan. They were on a main road in a marked UN vehicle on official business. In a separate incident on Thursday, the WFP compound in Kutum in North Darfur was looted by pro-government militia, who stole furniture, fuel, and computers from an office and guest house there. The compound of GOAL, an Irish aid organization, was also looted.
