Gunmen hijack lorry, rob passengers in South Darfur

Gunmen on Monday hijacked a Nissan lorry transporting more than 30 passengers from Kass in South Darfur to Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur. One of the passengers told Radio Dabanga that on Monday evening government-backed gunmen in two Land Cruisers and on camels fired at a convoy of four vehicles in the area of Kornei on the Kass-Zalingei road. The three other vehicles managed to escape the “hail of gunfire”, while a fourth was forced to stop. The gunmen took the lorry and its passenger to a nearby valley. They stripped the passenegers of all their belongings and beat and whipped them before releasing them. File photo
