Meetings resume between Darfur displaced and organisations

The periodic meetings between the organisations working in Darfur and the leaders of the displaced of camp Kalma, near Nyala, capital of South Darfur, were resumed on Monday after a halt of more than three months. The hiatus was due to the security situation. Dr Saleh Issa Mohamed, the Secretary-General of the camp, told Radio Dabanga that the meeting with the organisations on Monday addressed many of the problems facing the ‘old’ and ‘new’ displaced in terms of water, food, health, environmental sanitation, education, and security. They also addressed the registration of the unregistered newly displaced and the challenges facing them when they leave the camp to collect firewood. Dr Mohamed explained that the meeting discussed the problems facing humanitarian work and the lack of services in the camp.File photo: Displaced women and children in Darfur (Albert González Farran / Unamid)Related: Teachers, classrooms needed for 265 deaf students in South Darfur (10 February 2014)
