Darfur displaced suffer after downpours

Heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday destroyed several houses in Kalma camp near Nyala in South Darfur. Hussein Abu Sharati, spokesman for the Association of Displaced persons and Refugees of Darfur, told Radio Dabanga that the humanitarian organisations have not provided any new plastic sheeting for eight years. “This results in damage to the sheeting, as well as the palm matting used to as roofs for houses. The newly displaced are most affected as they lack shelter.” Abu Sharati appealed to relief organisations to speed-up the provision of shelter for the displaced to protect them from sun and rain.
