‘Eastern Sudan’s Suakin marginalised’: residents

The people living in Suakin, near Port Sudan, capital of Red Sea state, condemned the marginalisation of the area by the state authorities.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga from Suakin, an angry listener reported that the people in the town are suffering from “very frequent power cuts, even though we pay a monthly SDG109 ($) per house”.
He said that a residents’ committee has handed a petition to the local authorities to intervene and restore the provision of basic services.

The source also complained about the scarcity of specialists in the town's Teaching Hospital.

The director-general of the Red Sea state's Ministry of Health, El Fateh Rabei, denied the shortage of specialists to Radio Dabanga. He added that the Ministry “plans to enhance the medical staffing at the hospitals in all localities by appointing more doctors in the coming period”.
