Two raped at well in Darfur’s Jebel Marra

Militia members raped two women at Kenjara well in eastern Jebel Marra on Tuesday afternoon.

Militia members raped two women at Kenjara well in eastern Jebel Marra on Tuesday afternoon.

A relative of the victims told Radio Dabanga that pro-government militia elements intercepted two women while they were returning to their village at Kadareek after fetching water from Kenjara well and repeatedly raped them.

She said that they reported the incident to Tabit garrison but “nothing has been done to hunt down the perpetrators”.

The residents of Abu Hamra and Shangil Tobaya are living in terror as a result of elements of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia firing into the air day and night in the area.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that a RSF force in about 70 vehicles, heavily armed with various weapons, arrived from Nyala on Sunday and stationed themselves at Jebel Afara, four kilometres from Shangil Tobaya.

He said that for three days, people have not been able to go out to fetch water or collect firewood and straw.
