Youth in Nyala, South Darfur, collect clothes for newly displaced

Young activists in Nyala, South Darfur, have launched an initiative to help the newly displaced. Abdel Hafeez Abdallah, one of the initiators told Radio Dabanga that the aim of the initiative, dubbed “They are my family”, is to collect clothes, “as much as possible”. “We have already collected more than 1,000 pieces of clothing to distribute to the newly displaced who fled the attacks of the Rapid Support Forces on their villages southeast of Nyala since the end of February.” “We are still collecting,” Abdallah explained. “As the number of newly displaced is very large. They lack the most basic necessities of life, food, water, clothing, medicines, and shelter.” Abdallah praised the cooperative spirit of the citizens in Nyala. “Many people encouraged us to continue and expand our activities. That is indeed what we are doing. We want to extend our collecting toother towns and areas.” File photo: Participants of the Youth Volunteers Rebuilding Darfur Project in Nyala, South Darfur, at the Nyala Technical College, where they received training, 2 July 2013 (Albert González Farran/Unamid) Related: More South Darfur villages plundered by Sudan’s militias (4 April 2014) More than 127 South Darfur villages razed (2 April 2014) Exhausted displaced still arrive at South Darfur camps (15 March 2014) 18,000 newly displaced arrive at South Darfur camps; El Salam camp surrounded by militia forces (3 March 2014) Thousands displaced in attack on more than 35 villages in South Darfur (28 February 2014)
