WFP school feeding program to be extended in North Darfur

The department of nutrition of the Ministry of Education of North Darfur State has agreed to allow the World Food Programme to extend the school feeding program to additional pupils. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding whereby the WFP may offer a program in the localities Dar Al Salaam, Kalmindu, Al Tawisha, Al Lait, Al Kuma, and Tina, and in the camps Al Salaam, Abu Shouk, and Zam Zam, as well as for displaced in Korma and Tawila near El Fasher. According to the agreement, the number of pupils benefiting from the school feeding programme provided by WFP will increase from 293.000 to 421.000.

Radio Dabanga broadcast today a report from Tawila about the issue. Internally displaced persons there complained of a shortage of supplies from humanitarian organizations and skyrocketing prices. The market price for a kilo of beef has reached 18 pounds, lamb is 20 pounds, a litre of cooking oil is 4 pounds, and a pound of onions is 2 pounds.
