West Kordofan population reject new residence for governor

People in El Fula, capital of West Kordofan, have voiced their strong discontent about the expenditure on a new house and a hostel for the Governor of the state, Abulgasim Baraka.
The government of West Kordofan held a workshop in Khartoum last week to discuss the design of the Governor’s new residence and the hostel attached to it, at a cost of about SDG20 billion (more than $3 million).
“Many West Kordofanis were shocked when they heard about the expenses,” a listener told Radio Dabanga from El Fula.
“We consider the high costs for the governor’s house a provocation to the feelings of the state’s residents, who live in poverty, and suffer from hunger, diseases, and a lack of educational services,” he said. “It is a waste of public money, and a kind of corruption. The people demand the amount be spent on the provision of water, and on health, and education services.”
