The capital of West Darfur has been in total darkness for two weeks because of the failure of the main generator. A radio station has stopped broadcasting because of the power outage.

El Geneina in West Darfur has witnessed its power station being out of service for the third time in a month.

The electricity department announced that the electricity produced will not exceed 1.5 MW, which will be used only for El Geneina Hospital and the water stations.

Speaking from El Geneina, listeners complained that the issue of non-operation that regularly occurs to the generator is bigger than the state’s technicians are capable of solving.

El Geneina Radio stops

For the third day in a row, El Geneina Radio has stopped broadcasting after the power outage.

Residents in the town said that their business have been harmed, especially those of craftsmen and restaurants, because of the power cuts that have been happening on and off for about three months.

In November, an employee informed Radio Dabanga that the ongoing power cuts – sometimes for weeks on end – have also caused great damage to traders and students in El Geneina.
