The Water Investigation Committee of North Darfur state has tabled an emergency plan to face the coming dry season.

After a meeting with the North Darfur state authorities in El Fasher, Nureldin Adam Osman, director of Cities Water Provision, told the press that the Committee had stressed the need to meet the growing demands for water in the state.

The Committee proposed to drill five extra wells at the Shagra water station, provide submersible pumps, and improve the electricity supply to the pumps. Advantage should be taken from the Sag El Naam Basin, the valves of the water supply network are to be maintained, and the water lines from Golo Basin, the main source of water supply for El Fasher town, are to be rehabilitated.

Osman explained that El Fasher receives water from the Golo and Shagra Basins through seven waterlines, “in addition to the old one”.

“The actual daily production of water at the basins is more than 19,000 cubic meters, while the actual need is 38,000 cubic meters,” he stated.
