Three traders, travelling from Tendelti to El Geneina in West Darfur, were abducted on Monday and taken to an unknown destination.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that members of a pro-government militia ambushed the traders in Sirba locality in the afternoon. The militiamen ordered them to stop at gunpoint.

“The militia members took Mustafa Mohamed Jaber, Mohamed Jaber Khalil, and Abdallah Ibrahim Musa and the vehicle to an unknown destination,” the witness said.

“The authorities must now intervene to release the abducted traders and arrest the perpetrators.”

Kidnapping people for ransom in Darfur has increased significantly over the past few years. The latest abductions in West Darfur add to a total of 11 people who were kidnapped in five separate incidents reported to Radio Dabanga from across Darfur over the past week.
