The owner of a water tanker and his assistant were injured near Kutum, North Darfur, in an ambush by robbers on Sunday. In East Jebel Marra, a woman was hit by bullets when gunmen attacked a convoy of passenger lorries on Saturday. In Um Kheir, Central Darfur, eight water engines were stolen. Fires destroyed vast tracts of farmland in the area.

“A group of militiamen intercepted the tanker on its way to Kutum town,” a listener reported to Radio Dabanga. “They robbed the owner, El Sadig Mubarak Adam, and his assistant, Mohamed Abdallah, of their mobiles and SDG6,000 ($997). The attackers then stabbed both of them with their knives.”

He said that the people in Kutum are terrified by the widespread presence of militiamen in the locality these days.

East Jebel Marra

A group of seven gunmen riding camels attacked a convoy of three passenger lorries, en route to the Sawani market in East Jebel Marra on Saturday.

“Salima Ahmed Eisa was injured when they fired at the lorries. They ordered us to disembark at gunpoint, and robbed us of SDG15,000 ($2,500) in total, as well as our mobile telephones,” one of the passengers told Radio Dabanga.

Water engines

In Um Kheir, Wadi Salih locality, eight water engines were stolen from on Saturday.

A resident from the area also reported that random shooting by militiamen set fire to large areas of farmland.
