A group of militiamen raped three women in the area of Tabit in Tawila locality in North Darfur on Sunday afternoon.

A relative of the victims told Radio Dabanga that members of a government militia in a Land Cruiser and others on camels ambushed the three women, aged 21, 23, and 25, as they collected firewood in the area of Keira, 15 kilometres west of Tabit. “They raped them repeatedly at gunpoint.”

He said that the people in Tawila “do not know what to do any more. “Every day, ordinary citizens are assaulted, especially the women.

“There is no protection provided by any local, state, or international body, despite our repeated complaints and appeals.”
