‘Thousands of Sudanese refugees arrive in Chad’ – UN

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said on Saturday that around 12,500 Sudanese refugees fleeing inter-ethnic violence in Darfur have arrived in Chad over the last four weeks. A joint UN-government mission had registered about 12,500 people, for which UNHCR was not prepared, Aminata Gueye, representative of the UNHCR in Chad, said. “About a month ago, the border town of Tissi has started registering a huge influx of Sudanese refugees from the Darfur region”, she added.“We were not expecting this.
