Tearfund robbed of livestock in Kass, South Darfur

Militia members stole 450 goats from the Tearfund organisation in the area of Morotoga, 5km south of Kass city in South Darfur, on Wednesday. A source told Radio Dabanga that about 27 government-backed militiamen riding camels and horses announced their attack in the morning firing shots in the air, before they stole 450 goats in the Morotoga area. The animals belonged to the American Tearfund organisation working in the field of health and development. They were meant to be distributed amongst orphans, widows and poor people in the region. Tearfund currently operates in three out of the five Darfur states: Um Dukhum and Niertiti in Central Darfur, Ed Daein in East Darfur, and Kass in South Darfur. Militia threats Meanwhile, residents of the Early neighbourhood east of Kass town fled to western neighbourhoods after militiamen threatened them with death and the burning of houses.A witness told Radio Dabanga that pro-government militia members claimed that the perpetrator of the killing of one of their followers was amongst the Early residents. “They threatened the people to either deliver the killer, or they will be attacked and killed and their houses burned, which resulted in residents fleeing to western areas in Kass.”File photo: Herding goats in Darfur
