Sudanese suspect of terrorist attack arrested in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia claims to have foiled a terrorist attack during a match in a football stadium in Jeddah last Tuesday, and arrested a Sudanese suspect.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia claim to have foiled a terrorist attack during a match in a football stadium in Jeddah on 11 October, and arrested a Sudanese suspect.

The Saudi Interior Ministry said that it received credible information of the potential terror attack, at a press conference on Sunday. The plan involved a car bomb in the parking lot near El Jawhara Stadium, during a World Cup qualifying match between the Saudis and the United Arab Emirates. It was attended by thousands.

The Ministry confirmed the arrest of four suspects, “in an operation belonging to Daesh (IS)”, including a Sudanese man, two Pakistanis, and a Syrian. The Sudanese is reportedly named Abdelazim El Taher Abdallah Ibrahim.

Saudi-Sudanese ties

In a meeting with Sudan's First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Saleh on Sunday, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia stressed the strength of the relation between the two countries. Ambassador Faisal bin Hamid El Maala said in a press statement that Sudan is keen to enhance its relations with the Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.
