Sudan’s Public Order Police detain 12 Christian students

12 Christian women students were detained in Khartoum North on Thursday, on charges of undermining the public order, by wearing “indecent outfits”.

12 Christian women students were detained in Khartoum North on Thursday, on charges of undermining the public order, by wearing "indecent outfits".

The students, aged between 20 and 22, were held when they were leaving the Baptist church in Teiba El Ahameda in El Izba district. They were wearing trousers and skirts. They were transferred to El Sababi police station in Khartoum North.

They were released on Friday, after ten of them were charged with “deeds against the public morality” under Article 152 of the 1990 Criminal Code. They are expected to be brought to trial on Sunday.

According to Article 152 of the Criminal Code relating to “indecent dressing in public and obscene deeds”, the students may be sentenced to a fine or a maximum of 40 lashes.
