Sudan negotiators say no decision yet to suspend Doha talks

The government delegation at the Doha negotiations on peace in Darfur said that it’s premature to talk of suspending the negotiations. Dr. Omar Adam Rahma, spokesman of the delegation, dismissed signs that the negotiations will be suspended and resume after Eid Al Fitr, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan.

He told Radio Dabanga that no decision has been made yet to suspend the negotiations, adding that talks are still ongoing in Doha. The spokesman added that a high-level committee will meet with the mediators to decide the issue on Wednesday morning. Today the chief mediator issued a statement saying that the success of the negotiations is threatened by the continuing boycott of two prominent rebel leaders.
