According to lawyer Ali Mahmoud Hassanein, head of the Broad National Front, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are “tribal mercenaries”.

“They are hired for political reasons, and barely trained. That is why they are not committed to military war codes, like the professional armed forces.”

Hassanein told Dabanga that the RSF, commanded by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) “currently rank higher than the Sudan Armed Forces”.

“With attacking, oppressing, and brutalising civilians, they are just following orders given by the NISS. Sudan is in the grip of a group of gangsters, who rule, rape, and rob the country as they like,” he stressed.
