Students clash in Omdurman; several seriously wounded

Reportedly eight students were wounded following clashes between an East Darfuri student association and members of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in Omdurman.

A clash erupted between two groups of students at El Ahlia University in Omdurman on Wednesday. Several students sustained serious injuries.

A total of eight students were wounded. The incidents took place when student members of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) verbally abused members of the Sibdu Students’ Association of East Darfur, when they were playing football. This provoked the latter into attacking the NCP students' discussion corner.

In response, the NCP students torched the headquarters of the Sibdu Association at the university. A number of students were detained during the incidents.

The Sibdu students have demanded a ban on the activities of the NCP at El Ahlia, restoration of property that was stolen from them, and submittal of a written apology for the verbal insults against the East Darfuri association, and "the social entity" of its members.
