SPLM winners could participate in North Darfur state council

The SPLM Northern Sector announced that it will consider allowing two of its candidates to participate in the North Darfur Legislative Council. The two men have won seats in the state legislature despite the election boycott announced by the party before the 11-15 April voting period. The party added in a statement that militia have detained six citizens of Serif Umra in the 24th state constituency, beating and torturing them in retaliation for having voted for the candidates of SPLM. The party pointed out that the attacks and threats were targeted at those who participated in the electoral campaigns of the movement in the state. SPLM strongly condemned this development and said that the National Congress Party bore responsibility.
