A member of the Sudanese parliament reported the killing of six people in West Kordofan during the incursion of an armed faction from South Sudan on Sunday.

The head of the health committee in the national parliament, Saleh Juma, reported that six civilians, including three women, were killed in Keilik in West Kordofan. He claimed that an armed faction from South Sudan entered the Sudanese territory and attacked the area.

They stole “about 1,300 cattle”. Juma denied knowing the identity of the suspects.

The member of parliament further reported that a total of 36 pastoralists and members from nomadic communities have been killed by South Sudanese gunmen in the past two months.

Dissolving

The heads of the native administration in West Kordofan strongly rejected a government proposal to dissolve the entire state and annex various parts to North and South Kordofan states.

Addressing the press after meeting Minister of the Federal Governance Chamber Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, the civil leaders pledged to work together to end ethnic conflicts in the area; which prompted the proposal.

Radio Tamazuj reported that Sudanese officials at the ministry recently called for the dissolution of West Kordofan state. They said it is one of the largest states in Sudan that frequently experiences conflicts along ethnic lines.
