South Darfur to investigate killings in El Sunta

An inquiry committee will investigate the attack in El Sunta in South Darfur last Tuesday, during which nine people of the Habaniya tribe were killed.

The Governor of South Darfur, Maj. Gen. Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi, has announced the formation of the committee. He threatened to punish anyone who participated or is proven guilty in the incident, even if they are government employees, native administrators, or outlaws.

Jarelnabi further revealed the deployment of troops to secure the citizens of Sunta. 

Besides the killing of nine people and the wounding of three others last Tuesday, a part of the town in Sunta locality was torched. Reportedly, the attack was triggered when a Rizeigat trader was killed by Habaniya militants on El Sunta-El Ferdous road.

Sources said that in response, “a group of Rizeigat in three Land Cruisers raided Sunta on Tuesday morning. They killed nine Habaniya, and injured three, among them Musa Mohamed Jido, omda of El Sunta locality.”
