South Darfur IDPs face danger after flight from Kalma Camp

A sheikh of Kalma Camp said Friday that that hundreds of refugees who fled from Kalma Camp to the areas Ishma, Kowjeh and Amdum in Balil Locality have been assaulted at night by groups of Abbala Arabs. The attackers stole animals and money and forced the refugees to flee to the camp again.  The source said that the Abbala targeted livestock farms of the displaced people and the sheikh appealed to all the displaced who left to return to the camp again.Many residents of Kalma Camp, the largest one in South Darfur, fled because of episodes of violence in late July and August.

Many residents of Kalma Camp, the largest one in South Darfur, fled because of episodes of violence in late July and August.For his part, an official from Balil, Mohammad Hamid Khamis, admitted that attackers have been destroying cattle farms by night, especially in remote areas. Yet he stressed in an interview with Radio Dabanga that this problem has been completely resolved now that local police forces were sent to the region.
