The South Darfur governor has expressed his concern about the shortage of primary health services in the state.

Addressing health graduates in the state capital Nyala on Saturday, Governor Adam El Faki reported that more than 300 health facilities need maintenance.

The about five million people in the state have to make do with 32 medical doctors and 800 hospital beds. “This means an average of 40,000 people per bed,” the governor said.

Moreover, about 440 South Darfur villages do not have any access to a hospital or a health centre.

“This means that a million South Darfuris are deprived of any form of health care,” El Faki stated. “This is a source of great concern for us.”
