South Darfur camp leader asks displaced to return for food rations

Leaders of El Salam camp in Nyala locality, South Darfur, have asked the newly displaced people who left the camp to work on farms, to return immediately. They will be registered and receive food ration cards, one of them promised. “The people who were displaced in 2013 and 2014, who were not registered by the camp’s administration, and left the camp to work on farms, have to return immediately to receive these cards,” a leader in El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga. He said that the World Food Programme (WFP) will hand out ration cards during the upcoming three days, from Tuesday until Thursday. He stressed that the card allows the receiving of food rations throughout 2015 and 2016. The United Nations’ humanitarian office (OCHA) said in a statement that it will begin making a new inventory of the total population of displaced people in El Salam on 16 November. For this reason, the camp leader called on every family to get registered. Sheikh Tabaldiya said in July this year that El Salam camp’s newly displaced, totalling 6,387 people, have not received any aid since they arrived at the camp four months ago. Most of them were displaced by conflict, and attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
