SLM-Minawi accused of corruption within Darfur Authority

A document sent by officials within the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority revealed that the movement of Minni Minawi deducted 15% from staff salaries without their consent and took the funds for the Commissions. The document states that the Secretariat and Commissions, which are headed by members of Minawi’s movement, take the equivalent of 70% of the management money per month, plus 13% from a “sovereign fund”. The leaders demanded the Chairman of the Transitional Authority convene an urgent meeting of the council, to be presided over by the Federal Minister of Finance, who would take part in the meeting with a representative from the Office of the Auditor General. The Transitional Darfur Regional Authority was established by the Darfur Peace Agreement of 2006. Its office in Khartoum is financed by the government of Sudan. Minawi recently renewed his political partnership with the ruling party after some terms of the peace deal expired upon completion of the national elections in April 2010.
