SLM-AW claims attack on Central Darfur military base

The armed rebels claim killing nine Sudanese soldiers, including one lieutenant, in an attack on a military garrison at the outskirts of East Jebel Marra.

An armed rebel movement claimed killing nine Sudanese soldiers in an attack on Friday, at the military base of Guldo in Central Darfur. The rebels say one of the killed is a lieutenant.

The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW), attacked the Guldo military garrison, at the outskirts of East Jebel Marra, and managed to seize ammunition and weapons. Several Sudanese soldiers were wounded, military spokesman Mustafa Tambour claimed, and two Land Cruisers were destroyed.

“Following our attack, the Sudanese troops fled from the area.”

Guldo and Rokoro, both in control by the government, are strategically positioned near the foothills of the East Jebel Marra mountain range, from where the SLM-AW manages to besiege the army.
