Security forces arrested the IDP leader of Hamidiya camp near Zalingei, Ismail Harun Abdullah. The coordinator of the IDP camps around Zalingei told Radio Dabanga that security forces arrested him when he went to Zalingei hospital for treatment. The coordinator accused the National Congress Party of trying to destabilize the camps. Hamidiya camp for displaced persons witnessed on Wednesday clashes between supporters and opponents of the Doha peace talks, leading to the killing two and wounding of others, the camp coordinator said earlier. UN peacekeepers put the number of dead at three, saying the slain were supporters of the Liberation and Justice Movement and the other side consisted of supporters of the Sudan Liberation Army of Abdel Wahid Al Nur. The two slain men were gunmen who tried to assassinate the youth leader of Hamadiya camp, according to the camp coordinator. They were beaten to death with sticks. A number of houses belonging to LJM supporters were also burnt down, said the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

“The fighting has since stopped and government authorities have arrested four suspects and confiscated weapons found in their houses. Humanitarian assistance to the camp has been suspended due to the precarious security situation,” UNAMID said in a statement yesterday.
