S. Darfur governor denies recruitment of new militia to fight rebels

South Darfur Governor Hamid Musa Kasha strongly denied the accusation that the government was intending to recruit 9000 men for a new militia to fight the armed movements in Darfur. He said that such information is baseless. The claim had been made by Commander Suleiman Sandal, the top general in the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), who said on Radio Dabanga that the group obtained information that there was a meeting attended by the Governor of Southern Kordofan Ahmed Harun, as well as Minister Issa Bushara and Kasha himself. The three supposedly laid out plans for the recruitment operation.
