Returnees’ homes, provisions destroyed by fire in West Darfur

Eight families that returned voluntarily to the area of Shibait Urdu from camp Abu Suruj in Sirba locality, West Darfur are suffering under poor humanitarian conditions after fire destroyed their homes, shelter, belongings and stocks of food last week. A displaced woman from Abu Suruj told Radio Dabanga that the eight families representing a total of about 80 individuals returned to Shibait Urdu because of the difficult living conditions at the Abu Suruj camp. The source says that it was their intention to grow some food by working their fields. Following last week’s fire, the families now have only trees for shelter. The woman has appealed to humanitarian organisations to speed up the provision of food, shelter and plastic sheets especially considering that the rainy season is starting. File photo
