Rebel combatants of the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid El Nur, claim to have routed an army force in Central Darfur.

Military spokesman for the SLA-Abdel Wahid, Mustapha Tambour, said that a formation of government troops tried to move from Golo in the direction of the Sur Reng area west of Jebel Marra.

The move was covered by intense shelling of the surrounding rea using a variety of ordnance and launchers. This continued for five hours.

He explained that the rebel and government forces clashed not far from Golo. The government troops led by Brigadier Burhan were forced to retreat and flee towards Golo leaving a still uncounted number of dead and wounded, as well as destroyed materiel.
