Rebels claim attack on Central Darfur military area

Darfuri rebel forces reportedly killed eight government and militia troops, in an attack on the military area of El Zubeir in Central Darfur today. Mustafa Tambour, the spokesman for the mainstream Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW), said that this morning, at about 5 am, rebel fighters attacked El Zubeir military area, 1 km east of Nierteti town. “Eight government and militia troops, among them a colonel, were killed, and several were wounded. We also seized large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and other military supplies. The rest of the outlaws fled in the direction of Nierteti.” Tambour acknowledged that three rebel fighters were killed, and six were wounded.
