Re-admission of expelled students

The criminal court of Nyala issued a resolution last Thursday on re-admission of the dismissed students of Nyala University. The students were previously suspended after clashes erupted at the university between protesters and government supporters. A number of 15 students were expelled and 3 government supporters were suspended for the the period of one academic year. One of the re-admitted students told Radio Dabanga that they consider the resolution a step in the right direction, but far from sufficient. He added that in the decision of the court both the expelled students and government supporters were treated the same. He said this was even though the government supporters stormed the university with 3 cars, carrying knives and machetes with which they attacked other students as well as some university professors. The victims are yet to meet with the administrative board of the university to discuss how to compensate the academic setback, health and social issues they suffered from.
