A lawsuit has been brought against the former deputy governor of Rive Nile state, Mohamed El Amin, for allegedly dismissing 3,000 railway workers.

An activist told Radio Dabanga that the Atbara Railway Syndicate of Legitimate Workers has filed a lawsuit against El Amin on accusations of illegally discharging the workers, during his tenure under the deposed Al Bashir regime.

On Sunday, the Forces of Freedom and Change in Atbara held a press conference and called on journalists and media to highlight the case.

A mass demonstration has been planned on Monday in Atbara. Activist Badreddine Hussein told Radio Dabanga that the protestors are expected to come out from throughout the city and gather in the house of the railway syndicate, and then heading to the railway square.

Atbara is the hub of Sudan’s railway system and the headquarters of the state-owned railway company.
